Most outdoor audio and lighting systems fail in the same place: the connection. Wires corrode, splices fill with water, and a $200,000 estate-grade landscape system goes dark after its first hard winter. Coastal Source — founded in 2003 in Marathon, Florida by the D’Ascanio brothers — was built specifically to solve that problem. Their thesis, in their own words: “Connections are the #1 cause of failure in outdoor systems.” The fix is a patented Plug+Play™ cabling platform with IP68 connectors — waterproof, airtight, and engineered to last decades in environments that destroy ordinary systems.

From Marathon, Florida to Moorestown, New Jersey

Coastal Source’s origin is rooted in the Florida Keys, where the D’Ascanio family had spent years building custom homes through their design-build firm, D’Asign Source. They kept running into the same problem on every estate-grade project: outdoor electronics that could not survive the climate. The founding brief was direct — “don’t be a copycat. Create something new and bring high-performance, reliable products to the market that fit the environment and defy the elements.” That sentence became the company’s positioning, and Defy the Elements™ remains the trademark that anchors the brand.

Today, Coastal Source operates from two locations: its Moorestown, New Jersey headquarters at 1270 Glen Avenue and its original facility at 11450 Overseas Hwy in Marathon, Florida. The leadership team is led by Franco D’Ascanio as CEO, with Harold Zimmermann as Chairman of the Board, Sean Snowden as VP of Design & Engineering, Jason Sanders as VP of Product Management, and Peter Sepesi as VP of Sales — a deep bench for what is still, structurally, a family-run company.

The Plug+Play™ System — Why Integrators Specify It

The Coastal Source product platform is unusual in the custom-integration space because it is engineered from the connector outward, not from the speaker or the fixture inward. The Plug+Play™ cabling system uses IP68-rated waterproof and airtight connectors paired with rugged triple-jacketed cables. The result: a system an integrator can deploy across a multi-acre estate in a fraction of the time of a traditional spliced-and-soldered install, with confidence that the connections will outlast the homeowner.

The product lines are deep and clearly organized:

  • Outdoor Audio — including the Ovation, RAZOR, 12.0 Line Source Bollard, CUBE, CONTOUR, and Pathfinder series. Each model is engineered for a specific outdoor use case — from concealed bollards on a pool deck to flagship line-source towers for full-estate entertainment audio.
  • Outdoor Lighting — the EVO platform plus Uplights, Downlights, Area & Pathway Lights, Hardscape & Wall Lights, Wall Wash Lights, In-grade & Well Lights, and the FLEX Niche Lights. A complete fixture catalog that covers every scenario a landscape lighting designer or AV integrator is likely to encounter.

Where Coastal Source Shows Up in 2026

Coastal Source’s 2026 trade-show calendar is a map of where the company sells: LEDucation in New York (April 13–15), the HTSA Conference in Fort Lauderdale (May 4–6), CI Northern EXPO in Pleasanton, California (May 28), the flagship CEDIA Expo in Denver (September 1–4), and SYNKD Live in Phoenix (September 28–October 1). The mix of architectural-lighting and custom-integration shows reflects the company’s real positioning — they sell into both worlds, and they win business by showing up in front of both.

The brand has also been recognized broadly in the design community, including a 2025 HGTV Designer of the Year partnership that put Coastal Source fixtures and audio in front of the broader luxury-design audience.

Why the Plug+Play™ Standard Matters

For a luxury integrator, the case for Coastal Source comes down to a single number: change-orders. A traditional outdoor audio or landscape lighting install will fail somewhere within five years — usually at a buried splice or a corroded terminal — and the homeowner’s relationship with the integrator suffers for it. Coastal Source’s entire engineering philosophy is built to push that failure point past the warranty horizon, past the typical landscape-renovation cycle, and into the kind of timeline luxury clients actually expect.

For lighting designers, the appeal is parallel: a single, consistent connector standard that lets a designer specify and re-specify fixtures across phases of a project — or across years of additions — without rebuilding the wire infrastructure underneath.

The Restrepo Innovations Connection

For Restrepo Innovations, outdoor estate work is a serious portion of the residential and hospitality side of the business. Pool decks, terraces, pool houses, cabanas, gazebos, fire features, and full-property landscape lighting all need to perform at the same level as the audio and AV inside the house — and they need to do it in coastal humidity, Northeast winters, and decades of irrigation overspray. Coastal Source is the platform we trust to deliver that.

The Plug+Play™ system also collapses the install timeline. On a large estate where the AV, landscape, and electrical trades are all working under the same compressed schedule, having outdoor audio and lighting that comes together quickly — and stays together for the next twenty years — is the difference between a clean handoff and a five-year warranty headache.

“Outdoor systems are where most integrators get exposed. Coastal Source built the platform around the one thing that actually fails — the connection. The IP68 connectors, the triple-jacketed cable, the Plug+Play system — that’s the engineering decision that keeps our estate-grade installs working long after the warranty window closes. It’s the brand we trust for outdoor audio and landscape lighting on any project where the client expects the outside to perform as well as the inside.” — Michael Restrepo, Founder, Restrepo Innovations
