Crestron is a programming-driven platform. The hardware is the easy part. Any qualified dealer can specify a processor, a touchpanel, and a power supply. The system is only as good as the engineer who writes the code behind it. Finding a real Crestron programmer in Bergen County is harder than finding a dealer, and the distinction matters.
Dealer vs Programmer
A Crestron dealer is authorized to purchase and install Crestron equipment. A Crestron programmer has formal training in either Crestron Home (the no-code platform) or in SIMPL Windows and SIMPL# Pro (the full custom programming environment). The two skill sets are completely different. A dealer can sell you a Crestron system. A programmer is what makes it actually do the things you want.
On a Crestron Home installation. the prebuilt experience. the programming is largely configuration. Drivers are selected, rooms are defined, scenes are tuned. A skilled installer can complete a Crestron Home job in days. On a full custom Crestron job, the programming can take weeks. Every behavior in the home is written from a blank page. That is where the platform earns its reputation, and where the wrong programmer can derail a project.
Crestron Elite Pro Status
Crestron Elite Pro is the highest dealer designation Crestron awards. It is not given easily. The requirements include a minimum number of certified programmers on staff, a verified service record, a verified project history, and ongoing manufacturer engagement. What to Ask Before You Hire
Three questions are worth asking any integrator quoting a Crestron system. First: who specifically will write the program, and how long have they been programming Crestron systems? Second: is the program written in Crestron Home or in SIMPL? Third: who owns the source code after commissioning. you, or the integrator?
The right answers are a named person, a clear platform choice with a reasoned justification, and an unequivocal “you own the source.” If the integrator hedges on any of those three, the project will not end well. We have inherited too many systems where the original code was held hostage to a service contract or simply lost when the original programmer disappeared.

The Crestron program is the layer that lets the homeowner experience all of that as a single home rather than five subsystems. Done well, it is invisible.
