There is no shortage of AV integration firms that learned the trade years ago and have been coasting on that knowledge since. Products evolve. Control platforms release firmware updates that change how drivers behave. New installation categories. outdoor integrated AV, biometric access, distributed power management. require familiarity with products and methods that did not exist five years ago. Staying current is not optional if you want to do this work correctly.
CEDIA Expo
CEDIA Expo is the largest residential technology trade event in North America. Held annually, it brings together manufacturers, integrators, designers, and technology professionals for product launches, hands-on training, and technical education sessions. For our team, CEDIA is primarily an education event. We attend manufacturer training sessions, walk new product categories, and spend time with the engineering teams behind the platforms we specify every day. The conversations that happen at manufacturer booths. the ones where you can ask a product manager why a driver behaves a certain way. are not replicated in online documentation.
CEDIA also serves as an early signal for where the residential technology market is heading. Categories that show up in force at one Expo tend to become standard specifications two or three years later. Attending gives us lead time to evaluate, train, and decide which emerging products are worth adding to our standard specifications before our clients start asking about them.
HTA Summit
The HTA Summit is a smaller, more focused gathering for HTA Luxury Certified firms. Because the room is limited to integrators who have cleared the HTA certification threshold, the conversations are substantively different from general industry events. Topics cover business practice, client management, project coordination with architects and designers, and the specific operational challenges of working at the luxury end of the market.
“The value of a peer group that operates at the same level you do is difficult to overstate. You learn as much from honest conversations with other integrators as you do from manufacturer presentations.” __EMDASH_PROTECT_0__
Crestron Masters
Crestron Masters is the manufacturer’s own advanced training event, held for Elite Pro dealers and certified programmers. The curriculum covers advanced programming techniques, new hardware platforms, control system architecture, and integration with emerging building systems. It is also a direct line to Crestron’s engineering and product management teams. which is where the most useful technical conversations happen.
Our programmers attend Crestron Masters to stay current with the platform they write against every day. The alternative. learning new Crestron features from release notes and online forums. is slower and less complete. There is no substitute for hands-on instruction from the people who built the system.
Why It Matters for Your Project
The integrator who attends these events is a different practitioner than the one who skips them. Not because showing up is virtuous, but because the knowledge gap compounds over time. The products we specify today are better specified because we have seen them demonstrated, asked questions of their designers, and in many cases trained on them before they reach the market.
If you are planning a project and want to discuss current product options and what’s genuinely worth considering versus what’s marketing, contact our team directly. That conversation costs nothing.
