About This Course

A stone slab selected under daylight reads entirely differently once the room is lit at 2700K. and a fabric chosen from a sample board can shift two tones under a 3500K source. This course gives interior designers a working framework for evaluating material selections under the actual light sources that will illuminate them, and for communicating color temperature requirements to the integrator and electrical team before fixtures are purchased. Attendees leave with a specification discipline that closes the gap between the design intent and the delivered interior.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, attendees will be able to:

  1. Explain how correlated color temperature (CCT). ranging from warm 2700K to neutral 3500K to tunable white. affects the perceived tone, saturation, and warmth of stone, fabric, wood, and painted surfaces.
  2. Develop a material review protocol that evaluates finish samples under the specified CCT of the room’s primary light source before purchase orders are placed.
  3. Describe how tunable white lighting systems allow a single fixture to shift across the CCT spectrum, and identify the design scenarios where tunability is a specification requirement rather than a luxury.
  4. Communicate color temperature requirements to the technology integrator and lighting control programmer so that scene presets reflect the designer’s material and mood intent.

Why This Matters

A material specification locked in at a showroom under incorrect light sources is a liability. one that surfaces at punch list when the owner sees the finished room for the first time. Correcting a fixture CCT after installation requires re-ordering lamps or replacing fixtures, and correcting a material selection after fabrication is frequently not an option at all.
