About This Course

Every luxury home delivered today is a networked building. and the architect’s decisions about IDF/MDF location, conduit routing, and mechanical room adjacencies directly determine whether the network infrastructure can perform at enterprise grade. This course approaches residential networking from the design side, using enterprise-class Ubiquiti UISP/Pro architecture as the reference point. Attendees leave understanding what the integrator needs from the drawings, and why network infrastructure is a design discipline. not a vendor problem.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, attendees will be able to:

  1. Describe the functional difference between consumer-grade and enterprise-grade residential networking, and explain why the latter requires architectural accommodation.
  2. Locate telecommunications rooms, equipment closets, and IDF/MDF spaces appropriately within a luxury residential floor plan, accounting for thermal load, access, and cable-run distances.
  3. Specify minimum conduit infrastructure. home-run pathways, horizontal distribution sleeves, and outdoor AP rough-ins. at the CD phase.
  4. Coordinate with the network/AV integrator on access point placement to avoid ceiling and wall conflicts with architectural finishes.

Why This Matters

An IDF placed against an exterior wall in a Florida room or adjacent to a boiler generates enough heat to shorten equipment life by years and voids manufacturer warranties. An access point blocked by an HVAC trunk means dead zones in the rooms owners use most. and a retrofit that damages the ceiling finish the architect specified.
