In plain English: A country club is not one space. It is fifteen of them on one campus, each with a different acoustic, a different audience, and a different schedule. The system has to do quiet member lunches, loud member-guest tournaments, weddings in the ballroom, sports audio in the grille, ambient music on the terrace, and code-mandated paging across the whole property. Done right, members never notice the system. They just enjoy the room.
The decisions you have to make.
Every country clubs project comes down to a handful of real decisions made early. Owner, GM, F&B director, and integrator all need to be in the same room before drawings get stamped. Wait, and the easy answer becomes the expensive one.
- Coverage and intelligibility. The system has to sound even and clear in dining rooms, bars, patios, locker rooms, patios, and event spaces without forcing staff to run the volume too high. For operators, the trade-off is guest comfort versus enough SPL for events, sports audio, and announcements.
- Zoning and scene control. Clubs usually need many small zones rather than one big system, so staff can run lunch, banquet, member lounge, terrace, and after-hours modes separately. Good zoning reduces service friction, but more zones add cost and programming complexity.
- Aesthetic integration. Luxury clubs often want speakers, displays, and controls to disappear into millwork, ceilings, and landscape architecture. Hidden gear improves perceived quality, but custom finishes and trim rings increase design, install, and maintenance effort.
- Outdoor and environmental durability. Patios, pool decks, cabanas, golf simulator rooms, and open-air bars expose equipment to humidity, grease, salt air, temperature swings, and cleaning chemicals. Commercial-grade weather-resistant products last longer, but they cost more and may require more planning for drainage, mounting, and service access.
- Network and IT ownership. Modern AV depends on managed switches, VLANs, QoS, and stable internet; the club's IT team or outsourced MSP often becomes a co-owner of the project. If the network is undersized or unmanaged, audio dropouts and control issues can undermine the whole system.
- Ease of use for staff. The best system is the one that front-of-house managers, banquet captains, and F&B staff can operate without calling a technician. Simpler interfaces reduce training burden and mistakes, but they may limit flexibility for larger event setups.
- Event versatility. Many clubs need the same spaces to host weddings, board dinners, golf outings, sponsor events, and member programming. A more capable system supports revenue-producing events, but it raises upfront cost and often needs more solid control, patching, and reinforcement design.

Cost depends on the room count, the scope of work, the cable path, and the level of finish. Here is what we see on real NJ, NY, and CT hospitality projects, scoped from actual jobs. Entry tier: $75,000-$200,000 all-in: small clubhouse refresh, a few zones of background music and paging, basic commercial displays, modest control, limited lighting integration, network cleanup, design/engineering, hardware, install, programming, commissioning, and staff training.
Multi-zone clubhouse + grounds

The most common mistakes.
These show up over and over in projects we inherit from other firms or from venues that tried to coordinate the work themselves. Catch them at the design stage and the project costs less, finishes faster, and serves members or guests the way ownership intended.
- Specifying residential or consumer gear in a commercial club environment: it may look acceptable at first, but it usually fails sooner under long operating hours, higher ambient noise, cleaning chemicals, and member abuse. Commercial products cost more upfront, but they are built for 12- to 18-hour daily use and easier serviceability.
- Ignoring acoustics and room finishes: hard surfaces, glass, stone, and open ceilings can make even expensive speakers sound harsh or uneven. If the room acoustics are not addressed, the operator ends up chasing volume and EQ instead of fixing the real problem.
- Underbudgeting conduit, cable pathways, and rack infrastructure: the visible equipment is only part of the job; the hidden labor often drives the real cost. Clubs that skip this line item later pay for ugly surface runs, limited expansion capacity, and harder maintenance.
- Treating the network as an afterthought: AV over IP, cloud control, streaming, IPTV, and wireless systems all rely on a stable managed network. If switches, power, VLANs, and QoS are not designed correctly, the AV system becomes unreliable even when the devices themselves are good.
- Not planning for service access and spare parts: gear hidden behind millwork or in inaccessible ceilings can be expensive to repair. Without a service plan and documented part numbers, small failures turn into long outages.
- Skipping training for F&B and banquet staff: if only the integrator knows how to use the system, the club will underuse it or create workarounds. Training needs to cover normal operation, event modes, reset procedures, and who to call when something fails.
The brands and platforms that actually serve hospitality.
Most of what gets sold as "commercial" at the box-store level does not survive a real hospitality environment. These are the platforms we specify and stand behind because they hold up over ten and fifteen year service lives in venues that run seven days a week.
- Crestron. A control and AV-over-IP ecosystem commonly used for room control, distributed video, shading, and lighting integration in higher-end hospitality properties. It fits best where the club wants one operating interface for staff and a scalable multi-space architecture.
- QSC. Strong in networked audio, DSP, paging, and larger zone control, with a broad ecosystem for clubhouses, banquet spaces, and outdoor audio. It is often chosen where operators want centralized management and flexible routing.
- Biamp. Known for DSP, conferencing, paging, and cloud-based device management, with platforms built for managed commercial environments. It fits clubs that want strong speech intelligibility, remote monitoring, and a predictable support workflow.
- Shure. A standard choice for wireless microphones, handhelds, bodypacks, and microphone management for banquets, events, awards dinners, and presentations. It matters most where RF reliability and quick event setup are important.
- BSS. A legacy and still-relevant DSP/control platform used in distributed audio, paging, and zone processing, especially in systems with Harman/JBL ecosystems. It is often used where integrators need flexible signal routing and control in commercial venues.
- Bose Professional. Common for background music, foreground sound, and compact zone systems where clean aesthetics and consistent coverage matter. It is a practical fit for lounges, dining rooms, and smaller club spaces.
- JBL Professional. Used for installed speakers, subwoofers, and amplifiers in larger or louder hospitality spaces, including ballrooms, bars, simulator rooms, and performance-capable event areas. It fits where output, coverage, and reliability matter.
- Lutron Athena/Vive. Lighting control platforms that fit hospitality scenes, dimming, scheduling, and daylight-responsive control in amenity spaces and exterior areas. Athena is typically used for more advanced architectural lighting and Vive for commercial wireless lighting control needs.
How this integrates with the rest of the operation.
A real hospitality venue is one operation, not seven systems. Whatever scope you are reading about here touches the POS, the reservation platform, the kitchen display, the lighting, the BMS, the security layer, and the network. The integrator's job is to make those handoffs invisible to staff and guests.
POS. Audio scenes, paging, and event modes often need to align with point-of-sale workflows, especially in bars, member dining, and banquet service areas. Reservation systems: Dining and event reservations can trigger room setup, signage, lighting scenes, or expected occupancy levels, which helps staff prep spaces before guests arrive.
BMS. Lighting, HVAC, shades, and occupancy conditions may need to coordinate with the building management system for energy savings and comfort. Life safety: Emergency paging, voice evacuation, fire alarm interfaces, and code-compliant notification paths must be considered early and tested with the AHJ.
Lifecycle, maintenance, and what to expect over ten years.
Year 1: Expect fine-tuning after opening, including DSP EQ adjustments, level balancing, control-page edits, Wi-Fi/network tweaks, and fixing any field issues from construction closeout. Training refreshes matter here because staff turnover is highest right after go-live. Year 3: Review firmware, warranties, and support coverage, and replace any weak points such as inexpensive wireless mics, failing HDMI extenders, noisy fans, or underpowered network switches. Hospitality use is hard on gear, so humidity, grease, and daily service wear start showing up by this point.
NJ, NY, and CT-specific considerations.
New Jersey ABC rules: Clubs serving alcohol need to respect municipal and state alcohol-control rules, and any renovation that changes service areas or occupancy patterns can affect licensing, operating hours, and event operations. Project scheduling should account for approval timing and any local limits on entertainment or hours of sale.
