Performance at the reference level is not achieved by purchasing the correct projector. It is achieved through image science: the calibrated alignment of hardware capability, screen environment, room geometry, and source chain that produces a picture meeting the standards used by the studios that created the content. The DLA-NZ Series
The JVC DLA-NZ laser platform eliminates the lamp-replacement cycles and brightness degradation that characterized earlier reference projection. Laser light source technology delivers consistent, calibrated brightness across the system’s operational life, with a color gamut that exceeds DCI-P3 and approaches BT.2020 on content mastered to that space. HDR handling on the DLA-NZ platform is particularly sophisticated: frame-by-frame tone mapping allows the projector to adapt its HDR response to the specific mastering targets of individual titles rather than applying a fixed HDR curve to every source.
This level of image intelligence requires calibration to realize fully. The Restrepo Group commissions every cinema environment to ISF standards. a structured calibration discipline that measures and corrects grayscale tracking, color accuracy, gamma response, and peak white luminance against the measured characteristics of the specific screen surface in the specific room.
Cinema Design as a Total Discipline
The Restrepo Method treats a dedicated cinema as one of the most technically demanding environments in any residence. The Discovery phase for a cinema project includes acoustic analysis of the proposed space, screen-size and throw-distance calculations relative to ISF viewing angle recommendations, and a source-chain audit to ensure that the delivery path. from streaming or playback hardware through processing and amplification to the projector. preserves image quality at every stage.
Seating, acoustic treatment, light control, and equipment placement are all addressed during the Design phase before any hardware is selected. The projector is specified to the room, not the other way around. Under the Restrepo Continuum Concierge tier, cinema environments receive annual calibration reviews. ensuring that the system continues to meet ISF measurements as the laser source matures and as reference content standards evolve.

A twelve-seat private cinema in Greenwich, CT features a JVC DLA-NZ9 installation calibrated to a 170-inch acoustically transparent screen, with Trinnov Altitude processing and a full Dolby Atmos speaker array.
