Pre-Wire Standard

Pre-Wellness Rough-In Standard

The Restrepo standard for low-voltage rough-in in wellness rooms before vapor barriers and thermal insulation are installed. Covers conduit sealing, moisture-rated wiring, and the coordination sequence with tile and waterproofing contractors.

What This Standard Covers

  • Conduit type and sealing requirements for wiring in sauna and steam room environments
  • Moisture-rated wire specifications for runs in wet zone and steam room cavities
  • Vapor barrier coordination requirements: conduit penetration sealing before membrane application
  • Speaker and sensor rough-in positions relative to tile layout and steam nozzle placement
  • Control wiring routing from wellness room to automation processor outside the wet zone
  • Inspection checklist before vapor barrier, cement board, or tile substrate is installed

Who It Is For

  • AV and low-voltage technicians roughing in wellness room wiring before tile substrate
  • General contractors coordinating wellness room rough-in with tile and waterproofing trades
  • Tile and waterproofing contractors who need pre-wellness sign-off before membrane installation
  • Architects specifying wellness room technology infrastructure in luxury residential drawings

When To Use It

  • After framing is complete but before waterproofing membrane or cement board is installed
  • At the coordination meeting between AV, tile, and waterproofing trades
  • Before vapor barrier application to verify all conduit penetrations are sealed
  • As part of the pre-drywall inspection sequence when wellness rooms are included in scope

Field Notes

Once the vapor barrier is down and the cement board is in, the wellness room wiring is committed. Any control wiring that was not run, any speaker conduit that was not placed, any penetration that was not sealed, all of those become problems that require tearing out tile. This standard prevents that.

The coordination timing in a wellness room is tighter than most spaces on a luxury project. The tile contractor has a schedule. The waterproofing installer has a schedule. The AV rough-in has to happen between framing and membrane, and that window may be a single day. This standard makes that window manageable.
