Whole-home distributed audio, done at this level, is fundamentally a usability achievement: technology so thoroughly resolved that the experience of music through the house becomes simply part of living there.

What Architectural Audio Actually Means

Invisible speakers are not a compromise. Sonance's architectural speaker line is engineered specifically for flush-mount installation in walls and ceilings, and the acoustic performance. when the speaker is specified correctly for the room volume, ceiling height, and listening conditions. is indistinguishable from a traditional freestanding loudspeaker in the same space. The visible element is a paintable grille that disappears into the ceiling plane. The audible element is a full-range sound image that fills the room without any visible source.

Room-to-room matching is a design discipline. Sonance's product family allows Restrepo to specify different speaker configurations for different conditions. a larger model with a dedicated in-wall subwoofer for a great room, a compact two-way for a bedroom, a moisture-rated model for the primary bath. while maintaining a consistent sonic signature across the entire system. The goal is a house where the music sounds like music in every room, not a house with fifteen different speaker systems.

For a Franklin Lakes residence, we installed a 14-zone Sonance system integrated with the home's Crestron automation platform. Every room in the home. from the kitchen and great room to the primary suite, home office, three secondary bedrooms, and finished lower level. has independent audio control. Zone groupings allow the household to fill the entire main level with a single selection, break into independent zones for different listeners, or fade specific rooms out without affecting others. Streaming platforms. Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and internet radio. are accessible from the Crestron app, a dedicated touchscreen in the kitchen, or voice commands in rooms where that preference is configured. The system recognized the household's usage patterns within days of commissioning; within weeks, operating it required no thought at all.

Streaming Integration Without Compromise

The streaming platforms that households actually use. not the ones an integrator happens to have a preferred relationship with. are the ones Restrepo designs for. Crestron's integration with major streaming platforms is native and reliable; no third-party bridges, no latency delays between rooms, no quality degradation from conversion. High-resolution audio sources are passed through the system at full quality. Multi-room synchronization is frame-accurate, so music playing in the kitchen and the adjacent living room arrives at the same moment.

Voice control, where a household wants it, is integrated as a layer on top of the Crestron system rather than as a replacement for it. Requests to a voice assistant in a given room are interpreted by the Crestron logic engine, which means the response is consistent with every other control behavior in the house rather than operating as a separate, occasionally unpredictable system.

The Method Behind the Music

The Discover phase of the Restrepo Method maps how a household actually uses music through the day. morning routines, working-from-home conditions, entertaining patterns, children's schedules, evening wind-down. before any specification is produced. The Design phase assigns speaker configurations, zone boundaries, and control locations to each room based on those findings, producing a system architecture that reflects the household rather than a standard template. Integration is commissioned room by room, with listening tests in each space before the project is considered complete.

Restrepo's Continuum structure allows households to select an ongoing service relationship appropriate to the system. The Concierge tier includes streaming platform updates, zone reprogramming as the household evolves, and priority response. ensuring that the system keeps pace with the way the family uses it over time.
