How do I update my old Crestron system?

Updating an old Crestron system requires firmware updates on the processor, module updates for connected devices, and in many cases a code rewrite if the original program is outdated or the original dealer is unavailable. Crestron 3-series processors from the mid-2010s typically need a full rewrite to support current SIMPL Windows or SIMPL Sharp code conventions and current touchpanel firmware.

What this means for your project

We regularly take over older Crestron systems in NJ and CT where the original dealer is no longer in business. The first step is pulling the original program from the processor, auditing what it covers, and determining whether an update or a full rewrite is the right call. A rewrite on a typical residential processor takes three to five days of programming time.
