Pre-Wire Standard

Pre-Trench Gate Standard

The Restrepo standard for conduit placement during site excavation and trenching for gate operator, intercom, and access control infrastructure. Covers burial depths, sleeve requirements under hardscape, and the sign-off process before the trenching window closes.

What This Standard Covers

  • Conduit type and burial depth requirements for gate operator power and control runs
  • Sleeve sizing and placement under driveway and walkway crossings for gate wiring
  • Intercom and access reader conduit routing from gate post to building entry point
  • Conduit fill compliance and future-use spare sleeve requirements for gate zones
  • End seal and pull string requirements before trenches are backfilled
  • Sign-off requirements before landscape grading covers all gate conduit runs

Who It Is For

  • Landscape and excavation contractors placing gate conduit before grading
  • General contractors coordinating gate rough-in with site work schedule
  • AV and access control integrators specifying gate conduit requirements before excavation
  • Architects confirming gate infrastructure in site plan drawings

When To Use It

  • Before site excavation begins to establish gate conduit routing and sleeve positions
  • During site grading when trenches are open and conduit can be placed
  • Before driveway or walkway base course is installed so sleeves are in place
  • After backfill but before landscape final grade for final conduit routing confirmation

Field Notes

The trench for irrigation, the sleeve under the driveway, and the conduit to the gate post all have to happen in a narrow window during site work. Missing the trench conduit means cutting and patching an installed driveway. This standard makes sure the right conduit is in the right place before the excavation contractor leaves the site.

Gate infrastructure also requires planning for future additions. A spare sleeve under the driveway costs nothing during excavation. Adding a camera at the gate post later requires that sleeve. We build future-use capacity into the standard so clients do not have to break their driveways to add a camera five years from now.
