Programming and commissioning. Crestron systems are programmed, not configured. The programmer writes the logic that turns scenes, theater modes, party modes, and away modes into one-button events.

Installation, training, and warranty. Final trim, panel labeling, client training, and the first year of support.

Where the money actually goes

Lighting is usually the largest single line item after the rack. A Lutron HomeWorks QSX program with Ketra fixtures in the right rooms can easily run thirty thousand to eighty thousand on its own once you count fixtures, keypads, panels, and the programming. We design, deploy, install, configure, and support Lutron and Ketra. We do not hold manufacturer certifications from either, and we do not need to in order to do the work well.

Networking is the second place the budget gets misread. A real luxury home network needs UISP fiber backbone, UniFi PoE switching, multiple access points with proper RF planning, and a router that can carry the load. Programming depth. Some shops sell a Crestron Home system with default scenes and call it done. For a typical luxury residence in Bergen, Essex, Morris, Passaic, or Hudson County, the honest answer is Crestron Home. The platform is materially stronger than it was three years ago, and daily usability has caught up with the boutique custom feel.

What is not in the number

Three things commonly get left out of the line item that go in the total project budget.

Electrical work and panel changes. Lutron HomeWorks panels and large lighting loads require coordination with the electrician. A neutral wire at every dimmer is not optional. Plan a separate electrical line item.

Network and structured cabling provided by the integrator. Some integrators bid only the control hardware and assume the GC will run cable. That always costs more later. The cleaner path is one team running every low-voltage cable in the house.

Future support and software. Crestron systems can be supported for a decade with the right maintenance plan. The annual support number is small relative to the project, and worth it.
