  • The AV firm asks for a dedicated 20-amp circuit for the rack after your load calc is signed off. The panel is full. Now something has to move, and the electrician takes the hit.
  • Low-voltage boxes and mud rings for keypads, touchpanels, and speakers arrive on site the week of trim-out with no coordination against the switch boxes you already set. Every keypad location becomes a conflict.
  • The AV rack is planned in the same closet as the electrical panel with no separation clearance. The inspector fails the panel and the AV firm blames the electrician for not flagging it.
  • Conduit paths for pre-slab or pre-wall low-voltage runs are decided by the AV firm without asking the electrician what is already in the floor or the wall. The routes collide and someone has to open a wall that was closed.
  • Rack power is treated as an afterthought. No UPS circuit, no dedicated ground, no surge path. The AV firm calls the electrician back after trim-out to add what should have been on the panel schedule from day one.

Pre-Power Rough-In Coordination

Before rough-in starts, we sit down with the electrical foreman and review conduit paths, panel space, and rack power requirements against your one-line and your panel schedule. We bring our low-voltage rough-in drawings and our device schedule to the meeting. Any conflicts are resolved on paper before the wall goes up, not with a saw at trim-out.

Panel Schedule Collaboration

Rack circuits, dedicated UPS runs, low-voltage transformer circuits, and any 240V equipment are on the panel schedule from the first revision. We do not add circuits after your load calc is stamped. If we need more capacity than the original scope, we flag it before the panel is ordered.

Rack Power and UPS Circuit Planning

Every AV rack has a defined power profile: total load, surge protection strategy, UPS runtime target, and dedicated ground requirements. We provide that profile to the electrician in writing. Rack circuits are labeled at the panel, not guessed at from the closet.

Low-Voltage Separation From High-Voltage Runs

We plan conduit paths that respect the code and the electrician's runs. Where separation is tight, we coordinate the routing on the plan before either trade opens a wall. In-wall separation, transformer clearances, and shared box conditions are handled at rough-in, not at trim-out.

Boxes and Mud Rings for Keypads, Touchpanels, and Speakers

We provide a low-voltage device schedule with box types, mud-ring depths, centerline heights, and side-of-stud calls before your rough-in starts. Where a keypad is stacked with a switch, we agree the composition and the box orientation with the electrician on the walk. The trim crew arrives to a wall that was planned.

At-The-Table Trim-Out Coordination

Trim-out is where poorly coordinated jobs unravel. We schedule our trim to overlap yours so questions get answered on the wall, not in email. Keypad placement, switch stacks, thermostat locations, and any final substitutions are handled together. The electrician does not close the job waiting on the AV crew to show up.

Alpine, NJ -- New Construction Main Panel

An Alpine new-build main panel was designed for the original AV scope. Six weeks before rough-in we joined the panel schedule review, added three dedicated AV rack circuits and a UPS feed, and the electrician updated the schedule before order. Zero panel changes were required at trim-out. The electrical foreman told the GC he wanted us on his next four jobs.

Greenwich, CT -- Estate Renovation With Existing Panel

A Greenwich renovation had a full panel with no room for the new AV load. Instead of forcing a service upgrade, we coordinated with the electrician on a small sub-panel dedicated to AV equipment, sited in the AV closet where the rack lived. Load was verified against the existing service. The homeowner did not eat a service change and the electrician did not eat a fight with the utility.

Franklin Lakes, NJ -- Full-House Rough-In Coordination

A Franklin Lakes new-build brought us in at panel design. We produced a coordinated low-voltage rough-in drawing set that overlaid onto the electrician's plans: conduit paths, box positions, panel loads, and rack power requirements. Rough-in inspection passed on the first walk. Trim-out ran two weeks faster than the GC had budgeted.
